Wairimu Muchiri – Professional Profile

Wairimu Muchiri is an experienced Clinical Psychologist, mental health advocate and early career researcher with a demonstrated history of handling a wide spectrum of mental health issues using a variety of treatment modalities. She runs her own clinical practice and is currently pursuing her doctoral degree.
Ms. Muchiri values integrity excellence. Her practice focuses on providing quality mental health services to Kenyans from diverse backgrounds. She does this by delivering cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based treatments to emerging (18-29 years) and young adults.
Wairimu’s interest in emerging adults extends beyond her professional practice. As a doctoral student at the United States International University – Africa, where she is in her third year in the Doctor of Psychology, PsyD, Clinical Psychology program, she has identified a large gap of knowledge in in research relating emerging adulthood as a cross-cultural concept. Existing research fails to account for emerging adulthood as a developmental stage with unique cultural features, present in developing countries such as Kenya. She hopes her doctoral thesis will lead to revolutionary changes in policy in Kenya and the East African region.
As a consulting psychologist with Shamas Rugby Foundation she leads a team of counselors in offering psychotherapeutic services, developing survey tools, collection and analysis of data, and ensuring camp objectives have been met.
Wairimu holds a Diploma in Counseling and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Daystar University (Kenya), as well as a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from the United States International University – Africa. She expects to complete her PsyD degree in 2020.
In her spare time, Ms. Muchiri is a swimmer, a travel enthusiast, an auntie, and one day she aspires to own and run an organic farm.
